Alikewise is a dating website with a unique focus. Many dating websites are very general. They allow users to build a profile and include lots of personal information in the hopes of finding compatibility that way. Alikewise is the perfect dating website for book lovers. The site helps people find one another using their personal book tastes. Users can list their favorite reads, whether it is fiction or non-fiction, and find others with similar preferences. Through this common ground, users can find connections and begin to build a relationship. How effective this system is varies and really depends on the individuals who are meeting up. The concept is very fun and interesting. Users who meet through their favorite books will immediately have something in common to discuss and begin breaking the ice. Users can also search people or search for an author or specific title to see which other users also chose that title and what else they read.Show more screenshots »
Alikewise was created by Matt Sherman in January of 2010. Sherman is currently the company’s CTO. Based out of Staatsburg, New York, the Alikewise team is small (under five individuals). This doesn’t hamper the effectiveness of the site in any way. Each day, users share information on their favorite reads and connect through a good book.
The whole online dating thing is far from new. Many websites do this and have been for a long time. Alikewise stands out because it remains focused on helping people connect through their favorite books. Regardless of genre or author, users can register and build a profile that says something about them through the books they read. Additional information can also be supplied such as age, gender and location, but the books are the main focus.
The Alikewise website users an attractive orange and blue color scheme with a white background for easy reading. New users are greeted by highlighted profiles as well as all the tools they need to get started. Alikewise is very well organized and easy to use. Book lovers can also appreciate the focus on books rather than awkward dating questions.
A visitor can begin using Alikewise by filling out the short registration form found right on the homepage. At the top left hand side, the user is asked to choose their status (a woman seeking a man, a man seeking a woman, etc.), as well as their age range and book or author of interest. After entering the details, the user can click the orange “Create my Profile” button at the bottom. The next page asks for a username, password, email address, date of birth, and a little information about what type of mate the person is seeking.
For now, anyone can join Alikewise for free. There are no subscription fees or other costs, which is a huge plus. Many dating website charge a monthly fee. According to the Alikewise FAQ there are plans to possibly add a paid membership (or require a subscription fee for all users). Any user who registers now before the subscription changes will be given at least three months of free access to all features when the paid membership goes live.
Alikewise is dedicated to one specific group: single book lovers. The concept of finding people through a shared interest in an author or book is really interesting. Book lovers can enjoy providing information on their favorite reads rather than focusing strictly on the typical dating question fodder that most dating websites usually throw at them.
